这个群体是最早的移民，是创立美国的主要力量， 他们主要分布在Appalachian Mountains一代，也就是美国的东北部。包括：Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee， 也就是奥巴马表现最差的州。

They both have long history and they both missed the boat when it came to the larger benefits that a lot of other people were able to receive. There's a saying in the Appalachian mountains that they say to one another, and it's, "if you're poor and white, you're out of sight." ...

其实，他们也不是针对奥巴马，而是对民主党的政策有成见。2004年，Kerry 输给布什的主要原因也是他们。

所以，奥巴马问题的根源是‘appalachia’ 问题，而不是种族问题。肯尼迪，克林顿能赢得他们的原因是他们都是这个群体的后裔。
