Somehow, I found the declaration on the front page laughable. It's confusing, self-contradicting and incoherent. The writer(s) may very likely be in early 20s, young and inexperienced, energetic yet disposed to misuse their energy, creative yet possible to reinvent wheels.
I just feel the whole declaration pretentious, hperpolic and funny. It's like a three-year-old pretending to be a grown-up by talking big and by putting on his dad's shoes and suites. I bet they don't really know what
they are really talking about. It sounds philosophical but one can readily see that the writers are still in their very early formative years.
Somehow, I just feel I want to laugh by reading their very seriously toned manifesto.

- posted on 04/21/2003
My apology if my comments made in a private communication were taken too seriously or literally.
Age of course should never be used as a gauge of quality of literary works. Nor was it my intention to do so. The funny feelings--or rather, a very personal observation-- I felt and conveyed to my friend did not stem from the writers' age, but from their writings. The declaration or manifesto on the front page seems to suggest some overly extreme interpretation of literature and, along with that, some lack of logical coherence, invariably inherent in most biased positions. Also I was a bit concerned that what strikes them as something new, revolutionary or first-of-its-kind, may have been something that has been experimented, advocated and abandoned long time ago. If that's the case--that's where their age may play to their disadvantage-- their enthusiasm, time and energy may be wasted.
In addition, I must confess that I didn't read very far beyond their stated belief and mission. Therefore, my comments pertain entirely to their attempted normative framework for literature. Their writing skills, wisdom and style--which are very likely present in their published stories-- have not been appreciated as much as they are entitled to.
It may not be fair to judge the quality of their stories by merely looking at their proposed literary philosophy. If on the other hand, however, that philosophy is faulty or fallacious, or at least not appealing, to the reader, the stories, created under the guiding blueprint, may be just as unattractive as the philosophy is controversial.
